Google+ Local Optimisation

Google+ Local Optimisation aka Google Places.

Only a matter of weeks ago, Google rolled out another major change to the way it presents its local data to users. Google Places (also known as Google Maps, Google Local, Google Local Business) is now officially merged into their Google+ interface.

On the surface, this change doesn’t affect how the search engines are dealing with the optimisation, editing or claiming process for your listing. In the main part it is an attempt to force business to use their Google+ platform hoping that customers will follow in droves.

What does this mean for small business? There are a few things that you need to take care of – housekeeping.

  • If you don’t have a Google+ account, create one now and preferably on the same account that your Google Places listing resides.
  • Once you have created your personal Google+ profile, go ahead and create your Google+ for Business listing.
  • Then call on all customers that you currently have and go after their precious +1’s as these will become a ranking factor in the near future.
